Not all sunscreens are created equal

For many, selecting a sunscreen simply entails deciding on an SPF and whether it’s spray-on or cream.  But the SPF level only measures protection against UVB rays (which cause burning). It does not measure protection against UVA rays which cause aging of the skin and can also cause cancer! It’s important to look for “broad spectrum” protection against both UVA & UVB rays which have received the Skin Cancer Foundation seal of approval.

Why should you avoid the spray? You’ve likely heard there’s a concern with using this on children due to the inhalation of the fumes.  But there are dangers to adults as well. The alcohol used in the spray-on formations make them flammable, even after applied and when you think your skin has dried.  Incidents of burns have been reported with causes ranging from standing near a grill, lighting a cigarette, or doing some welding. The spray also makes it more difficult to guage weather you are applying evenly and thoroughly getting the proper protection you need.

In addition to a SPF 30 Body Sunscreen, Rodan and Fields offers several other products with SPF to address your skin’s needs.  Tired of shiny skin with oiliness that leads to breakouts? The Unblemish Oil Control lotion includes broad spectrum protection with SPF 20. Perhaps you have sensitive skin – Soothe mineral sunscreen is formulated w/o fragrance, dyes, or alcohol that can irritate sensitive skin and will protect while minimizig the appearance of facial redness.  Of all the R+F sunscreen options, my favorite is the award-winning Reverse Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ Sunscreen. It protects against future sun damage while helping to reverse the signs of past damage by brightening dull skin.

In addition to using the right sunscreen, you have to re-apply!!!  As a former acne sufferer, I know that many girls don’t want to re-apply sunscreen on their face as it will mess up your make-up.  We have a solution for that too!  Enhancements Mineral Peptides Broad Spectrum SPF 20.  Sun protection in a powdered form that will also even skin tone and reduce redness. I love this stuff!
